Let’s face it, most brides spend the majority of their budget on their reception so it goes without saying that the menu should be as well thought out as the rest of the reception. Here, in the South, most brides tend to choose a buffet style menu but the sit-down meal is starting to gain popularity. As a wedding coordinator, I always suggest that my clients try something new, throw a curve ball of some sort into their reception menu, so their wedding won’t become one of the same ‘ol, same ‘ols.
For instance, if you choose to go with a buffet style menu, choose a theme of some sort and carry it out with the entire menu. Some good food themes could be Italian food, Mexican food, Vegetarian food, etc. It is also a fun idea to make different “stations” of food instead of having it set out on one long table.
On the other hand, if you choose a sit-down dinner it’s a good idea to offer a variety of choices for your guests. More and more people are moving towards a meat-free diet so it is a good idea to include an entree that fits that diet. You may also have a guest that might have a food allergy of some sort so have an entree choice that doesn’t include shellfish or nuts (they are the two most common allergies).
Think outside the box. That’s my favorite saying.
If you have a good idea for a reception menu, please let me know!
