“Fashionable Friday”: Must-haves for your jewelry box

As a Fashion and Image Consultant I often have clients who have way too much trendy jewelry and/or way too little mainstays in their jewelry box.  So with that in mind, I came up with a list of jewelry items that every woman should have in her jewelry box:

  1. Diamond stud earrings (real or faux) – Diamond earrings are so classic that they look good with absolutely everything in your closet from your scrubs to your little black dress
  2. Medium sized silver and gold hoop earrings – “Medium-sized” is around 1 to  2 inches in diameter and they aren’t too large nor are they too small.  They are the perfect size to be seen, but they will not be overbearing.
  3. A cocktail ring (real or faux) – A cocktail ring will add style to any of your dressier pieces.  There is just something about a cocktail ring that oozes “panache!”
  4. Bold earrings – There is always an instant when there is no need for a necklace.  In those cases it is a great idea to let your earrings do the talking.
  5. Two strands of pearls (long and short) – Pearls are appropriate for every situation from a wedding to a dinner date but some outfits call for the trendier long strand of pearls.  This picture demonstrates how timeless pearls are!  This is Hedy Lamarr, an actress from the 1930’s!
  6. A bracelet style watch – A bracelet style watch is much dressier than the typical leather strap watch and therefore can take you from the board room to the country club with ease.
  7. Bangles – I love bangles!  Whether you wear one at a time or pile them on you will look instantly stylish!
  8. A trendy long necklace – Everyone needs a fun, long necklace in their jewelry box.  As with the bangles, a long necklace will add instant style to an otherwise boring outfit.  This outfit, for instance, wouldn’t look as stylish without this long necklace!

Well, now I guess it’s time for you to go shopping!  Have fun!

New Blog Coming!

Ok, guys.  I’ve been trying to figure out how to make sure I post in my blog every day of the work week and I think I’ve come up with a game plan.  I will designate each day with a theme and post different content each week!  For instance, here is what I am thinking:

Mondays will be “Manic Monday” and I will post an article about organizing every week!

Tuesdays are “Terrible Tuesdays” and I will post an article pertaining to etiquette.

Wednesdays are “Wedding Wednesday”  and the theme will, obviously, be about weddings.

Thursdays will be “Topsy Turvy Thursday” which means that anything goes!  I will write about whatever I feel like writing about!

And Fridays will be “Fashionable Friday” and I will post an article pertaining to fashion and style.

I hope you all like my idea!  Let me know if you come up with an idea for an article!

The Best and Worst Dressed at the Grammy’s

Paris Hilton could be so sophisticated if she tried…it seems as though she enjoys being a floozy.  This “dress” looks more like a nightgown than a dress.  I do, however, like her hair!

Somehow Carrie Underwood always looks great and this dress she wore at the Grammy’s was no exception.  I love the fact that she chose to wear minimal jewelry – she is only wearing earrings. Another great point about this dress is that it is the perfect color for her skin tone.  The only thing I may have changed about the ensemble is her hairstyle.  This one doesn’t look bad, but I think it would have looked better sans the pieces around her face.

Who was your best and worst dressed?

Five Fashion Rules That Should NEVER Be Broken

As a fashion consultant I always run in to men and women who have trouble expressing their style because they have found themselves stuck in the horrible cycle of wearing “fashion don’ts.”  So in an attempt to keep you out of that category I thought I would share my top five rules that should never be broken:

  1. Never have visible panty lines, aka VPL.  – Nothing takes away from an outfit more than when you turn to walk away from someone and WOA!…panty lines!  An individuals eyes will automatically go to your backside no matter what, especially if you have VPL!  My suggestion is to wear thongs or go pantyless.  If you choose to go pantyless they have these new items that are kind of like panty liners, but they go inside of your clothing instead of your panties.
  2. Never wear a trend from head to toe – You will look like you are trying too hard.  Instead, work trends in with accessories.
  3. Never bare too much skin – Have you ever heard the saying “leave a little to the imagination?”  Miniskirts and mid-driff baring shirts aren’t for anyone over the age of thirty, in my opinion.  Now let me clarify by saying that a woman can wear a miniskirt if she also wears tights – in certain situations.  See the picture at the right.  French Connection Tinsel Pleated Twill Skirt with Belt
  4. Always wear a bra unless a bra is sewn in to your clothing -  I don’t care how great it looks on Kate Moss, it will not look that great on you or ME!
  5. Always try to keep up with the style.  You will stand out (in the wrong way) if you walk around in your hippie clothing and/or 80’s clothing right now!  Staying up with the style doesn’t mean you have to be “trendy.”  You should strive to be “current.”

I hope those tips help you!  If you guys have any more suggestion for fashion don’ts please feel free to comment!!!

Thanks for reading.
