Bad Etiquette?

As an etiquette instructor I have run in to some unusual sayings for things, such as:

“I need to make a drop off” – when someone has to go to the restroom

“My aunt is visiting” – when a woman is menstruating

“I’m going to talk to the big white telephone” – when someone has to throw-up

“I’ve got a turtle head” – (I’m not going to explain that one!) Thanks “Fat Bastard” for that one! 

But I have never heard the saying “The chocolate stork is about to pay me a visit!”   Am I the only one who hasn’t heard this saying?!?!  I don’t know were people come up with this stuff but I can say for sure that it definitely doesn’t follow ANY etiquette rule! 

If you have to relieve any sort of bodily function, please keep it to yourself.

My Pics for Best and Worst Dressed from the SAG Awards!

Oh how I love awards season!  The dresses, hair, makeup, and accessories always provide me with much needed inspiration!  Below are my pics for best and worst dressed from the SAG awards last night. 

Claire Danes looked beautiful in this floor length red Nina Ricci gown.  The best part to me was that her hair and makeup were perfect!! 

Anne Hathaway is on a roll!  I picked her for my best-dressed list from the Golden Globe Awards, too!  I wish I looked this breathtaking in white!  Anne wore a goddess-like, floor length Azzaro gown with the perfect hair and makeup to match!  LOVE this! 

Eva is my pic for worst dressed mostly because of her hair!  This is the worst up-do she could have chosen.  This color and style of dress begs for a messy down-do.  I just hate this look for her.  And to think…she looked so beautiful at the Golden Globes!

PJ’s NOT a good look for the red carpet! What do you think?

Ok, I usually like Jessica Alba’s style, but this is just BAD on so many levels!  What in the world was she thinking?  I mean, I could understand if this red carpet was leading to the Playboy mansion,but this was the premiere of the movie My Bloody Valentine!  No place for PJ’s.  Sorry Jessica, but this is definitely the worst look of the year so far!

Great Idea for Wedding Favors!

I was reading about a recent wedding in one of my bridal magazines and noticed that the couple had an awesome idea for a wedding favor!  Cupcakes! 

I’ve seen cupcakes as the wedding cake, but I’ve never thought to give them out as favors!  There are so many options to choose with cupcakes that they could go with any theme or color wedding! 

 I always suggest to my clients that they give a favor that is edible and not something that their guest will just take home and throw away.  An edible favor is always used…eaten!  : )  The most popular edible favors these days are cookies, truffles, and candy, but if you want to be different you should offer cupcakes! Yummy!

My Opinion on Best and Worst-Dressed at the Golden Globes

 

 

Maggie Gyllenhaal is my pick for “Best-Dressed!” I love this Lanvin floor length gown.  The asymmetrical neckline and the interesting almost animal print like pattern is unexpected and fun!  I love it!  The hair, makeup, and jewelry brought the whole look together. 

Anne Hathaway looked stunning in this Armani Prive navy blue, floor length gown.  The minimal jewelry and sophisticated hair and makeup were a perfect match for this dress. 

My pick for “Worst-Dressed” was Marisa Tomei.  There is just way too much going on in this outfit!  Although, I like the idea of the necklaces they don’t fit with this outfit!! 

I also wanted to mention that there was a whole lot of celebrities that wore light shades like white, silver, ivory, and blush pink!  That seemed to be the trend for the Golden Globes!  For instance, Elizabeth Banks, Miley Cyrus, Ameria Ferrera, Eva Mendes, Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, Megan Fox,Sandra Bullock, Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, and Demi Moore all wore pale colors!!

My Choices for Best-Dressed at the People’s Choice Awards

Carrie Underwood looked gorgeous in this floor length Naeem Khan metallic lace dress.  I have loved almost every one of her red carpet looks lately!  She knows what works for her body and style and she never strays from that! 

Olivia Wilde proves that you CAN wear white after Labor Day!  She looks great in this flowy,white halter dress.  It’s very refreshing and she stood out from the other ladies on the red carpet.

Add-on For New Year Resolutions!

In my last post I told you guys about three of my New Year Resolutions but I have one more! 

VOLUNTEER more!  But someone has to tell me how to get over my anguish while I’m doing it!  Let me explain – The philanthropy that I want to volunteer for is pet and animal related.  I have always had a soft spot in my heart for animals and I want to do whatever I can to help as many as I can but sometimes I hold myself back because I can’t handle it.  For instance, PAWS has a monthly off-site pet adoption at Petco and I want to volunteer so badly, but I know that once I look into each of those little faces I couldn’t bear to take them back to the West Monroe Animal Shelter if they did not get adopted.  I have seen the anguish and sadness in their eyes when they realize that they were the ones no one wanted and now they have to go back to that jail and await their death sentence.  I just can’t bear it!!!  Please someone help me to get past that!
